Artist Statement

My work responds to social and political themes, the work is sometimes intuitive and at other times meticulously planned. The video Exposure focuses on representation within the media and considers identity and racial profiling here in the UK, and the USA. In Blink, Blink, I explore the notion of youth violence and asks if this is only a black youth phenomenon.

Although I use video and performance, I am open to experimenting with other mediums to examine current issues and injustices that take place in the African Caribbean diaspora. I work in a non-linear way, to provide discourse, encourage discussion and possible solutions in a gallery setting, or in site-specific locations. My aim, to provoke shifts in any singular perception.

I also leave time to ‘play’ and experiment without agenda.
