Artist Statement
I create work responding to social and political themes, blending intuitive and planned approaches. My video Exposure explores media representation, identity and racial profiling here in the UK, and the USA. Another piece, Blink, Blink, considers the notion of youth violence and asks, whether this is exclusively a black youth phenomenon.
Though I primarily use video and performance, I am open to experimenting with other mediums to examine current injustices that take place in the African Caribbean diaspora. My work is non-linear, aiming to foster discourse, encourage discussion, and explore solutions and possible solutions, whether in galleries or in site-specific locations. My aim, to provoke shifts in any singular perception, while also leaving time for playful, gender-free experimentation to invite unexpended discoveries in my creative process.
